Know how to calculate Body Surface Area (BSA).
- Body Surface Area is a method used to determine drug doses in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and pediatric patients.
- For pediatric patients, the neonates are excluded. Neonates are dosed by weight along with other determining factors like the following: age, biochemical factors, physiological factors, functional factors, pathological factors and immunological factors.
- The average BSA of an adult is 1.73.
- BSA is expressed in m2.
There are two ways to calculate BSA. Make sure to use the proper units in each method. m2 is the unit for BSA.
